Built in the 19th century - Gurthalougha House stands on the shores of Lough Derg, one of Ireland's largest and most beautiful lakes, formed by the River Shannon.
Description
The drawing room, library and diningroom all have beautiful views across the lake to the hills of Clare and Galway. The house is centrally heated through out and comfortably furnished in keeping with its period. The eight bedrooms are spacious and individually decorated, all with private bathrooms and direct dial phone. The atmosphere at Gurthalough is one of relaxation and gentle informality - breakfast is served until mid-day. Snack lunches are provided but we find most guests go out to explore the surroundig countryside for the day - returning with a hearty appetite for dinner.
Dinner is served at eight o'clock - drinks and niblets are served beforehand in the sittingroom while the guests choose from the menu.
Michael is assisted in the running of the house by friendly local staff and his wife Bessie.
Location
Situated off N7 at Nenagh or Roscrea to Borrisokane, signposted from there. From Galway via portumna to Ballinderry.
